The Rt Hon Claire Coutinho MP

Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero

On 12 December 2019, Claire Coutinho became Member of Parliament for East Surrey.

Claire has had a somewhat meteoric rise within the Conservative Party, culminating in her appointment as Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero on 31st August 2023.

 

Previously, her career spanned time in both the public and private sectors, including a spell as Special Adviser to the Treasury and Downing Street.  Claire was the Corporate Responsibility Manger for Education at KPMG and co-authored a Future Finance report with JP Morgan while at the Centre for Social Justice.

She began her career at Merrill Lynch in the emerging markets equity team and is a strong community and charity supporter, including Age UK and the Jo Cox Foundation.

Claire has a Master’s degree in Mathematics and Philosophy from Oxford University.
